The South Carolina Contraceptive Access Initiative

The South Carolina Contraceptive Access Campaign, a project of New Morning Foundation in partnership with Advocates for Youth, works to ensure that teens and young adults have the information, skills, and services they need to protect themselves from unwanted pregnancy and STDs, including HIV. We work in four metropolitan areas in SC: Greenville, Spartanburg, Columbia and Charleston.

The main goal of the Initiative is to ensure that young people know everything they need to know about sexual health, including where they can get birth control and condoms in their communities.

Initiative Highlights:

  • The Youth Activist Network is a group of peer leaders who conduct outreach and education to their friends and peers.
  • The text messaging line provides youth with facts and local resources about birth control and other sexual health issues.
  • Through the South Carolina Condom Campaign teens and young adults can get free condoms at health clinics, social service agencies, businesses and youth-serving organizations.
  • To complement these youth-focused efforts, the Initiative also provides training, resources and networking opportunities to clinics and pharmacies to ensure that young people have access to private, youth-friendly services.
